On February 4^th, 2004, REACH for Uganda (formerly the Arlington Academy of Hope) was born.  We are honored to celebrate 20 years of helping both boys and girls, and the people of rural Uganda, improve the quality of their daily lives and future potential through better education, health care, and community development.  In 2004, our primary school opened with 70 students; we now educate over 800 primary school students annually at Arlington Junior and Matuwa Junior schools.  Our outreach programs have helped another 20,000 students in the surrounding areas and have increased the number of students in the area who pass the P7 leaving exam.  Additionally, we send another 500 students to secondary school and tertiary schools.  We are proud that 281 students have received either a university or tertiary diploma, many of whom have returned home to teach or work in our clinics. 

Our impact goes far beyond education.  We are also celebrating 15 years of providing critical health care.  Our two Beatrice Tierney Health Clinics, in Bududa and Matuwa, treat more than 30,000 patients annually.  These clinics have significantly improved infant mortality rates, vaccination rates, and have worked to impart public health information.  We have installed solar lighting in Kikholo town so that merchants can stay open later to sell their wares; we have begun a woman’s coop with WMI money so women can help support their families; we have laid many cement floors in homes to help with cleanliness and insect problems.  Our partnership with you and with the people in Uganda has transformed the lives of so many.  We have achieved so much because of YOUR active involvement and the active involvement of our Ugandan partners.
