April 7 is World Health Day. First we want to thank you for supporting our health clinics. April 2026 is Health Month at REACH for Uganda. We are launching a health improvement campaign to fund and sustain health programs and critical infrastructure improvements.
Healthy students attend school, progress academically, and become leaders who transform their communities. REACH for Uganda invests in care delivery and clinic infrastructure to sustain and expand essential services and to strengthen facilities that serve more than 40,000 people each year.
For more than 22 years, REACH for Uganda has implemented an integrated model of education, healthcare, and community development in rural Eastern Uganda. REACH educates over 1,000 students across two primary schools and one high school and supports public schools through teacher training and scholarships.
We operate two clinics that deliver basic medical care, malaria, pneumonia and tuberculosis treatment, HIV care, maternal health services, and health education that equips families, especially girls and young women, with practical knowledge to improve health outcomes.
REACH wants to upgrade the Beatrice Tierney clinic facilities, starting in Bupoto, where current delivery and inpatient rooms do not meet patient demand. These upgrades will expand capacity and enable specialty services, including dental, optometry, and ophthalmology. Dr. George Bwaya will continue to lead clinical operations in both clinics.
Two donors will match all contributions for improvements at the clinics in Bupoto and Bumwalukani. Each clinic requires approximately $200,000 to build and equip.
This month, the Bupoto clinic will launch dental services. Thanks to Dean Scribner and Holly Hawthorne for making this pilot possible. Frank Khatete, the first dentist to graduate from the AAH program, will provide services ranging from cleanings to root canals. Dr. Esther Masaba will provide supervisory support.
REACH will also pilot an optometry program for students at its primary schools and Hawthorne-Scribner High School. The estimated cost is $5,000.
Recent changes in U.S. federal funding have reduced indirect support for medications and supplies by approximately $64,000 annually. REACH must replace this funding to sustain clinical services.
Each contribution strengthens this integrated model and expands access to essential care in underserved communities.
Donor recognition:
All donations support clinic improvements and service delivery. Matching funds apply to all infrastructure contributions or pledged annual contributions of over $10,000.
