The UT Martin Women's Equestrian team is leading an initiative alongside other teams and university organizations to support young women in rural Uganda in their quest for higher education. A young woman graduating university is a huge accomplishment in the rural, remote area of Uganda where REACH works. Help UTM make dreams come true! All money raised will support young women in our scholarship program on their journey to completing higher education, by paying for tuition, books, tech, etc.
For the past 20 years, REACH for Uganda has transformed communities in rural Eastern Uganda by focusing on delivering quality education, accessible healthcare, and sustainable community development. The organization's mission centers on uplifting some of the region's poorest and most vulnerable areas, aiming to bring lasting positive change. Through a holistic approach that integrates education, healthcare, and community development initiatives, REACH actively enhances the quality of life for local residents. Engaging a dedicated network of volunteers and skilled professionals, REACH not only meets immediate needs but also empowers communities to become self-sustaining and vibrant. At REACH for Uganda, promoting gender equity is a key focus for us in all aspects of our work. In Uganda, our gender equity efforts have boosted levels of enrollment among girls so that they equal or surpass male enrollment. At our primary school, 53% of all students are girls. All female students go on to complete university or tertiary education. This is in stark contrast to the national average of one in three girls completing lower secondary education. Still - our commitment to gender parity goes far beyond education, as we strive to uplift women in all aspects.
By employing women in our offices and on our projects, REACH promotes gender parity past the schoolhouse. Female graduates of the REACH sponsorship program successfully pursue careers in Uganda, serving as pioneers and leading by example. On our current construction project building our secondary school, we’re making sure that women are represented on our construction crew - they’re learning new skills, earning income for their families, and breaking down barriers. Our health programs are committed to providing high-quality womens’ healthcare to students and those in the surrounding community, increasing access to contraception, educating girls on sexual and reproductive health, and oftentimes providing life-saving care. We are committed to leveraging women as agents of change towards a more safe and equitable world.
