As the first year of our water project concludes, REACH for Uganda is excited to announce we’ve raised over $310,000 so far, including advanced funds and pledges, with an additional $140,000 in matching commitments. We need your help to reach our $500,000 goal to provide clean water infrastructure for Arlington Academy of Hope (AAH) schools, clinics, and 39 outreach schools in Bududa, Namisindwa, and Manafwa districts.
Clean water is scarce in Eastern Uganda, and communities often rely on polluted river water, causing widespread gastrointestinal diseases. REACH for Uganda is working to provide clean, safe water through a combination of gravity-fed systems, rainwater harvesting, and filtration. By the end of 2024, we aim to complete water systems at AAH schools and clinics, reducing reliance on firewood and benefiting surrounding communities.
In 2024, we installed water filters at Arlington Junior School (AJS), Matuwa Junior School (MJS), and local clinics, significantly reducing waterborne diseases. We’ve also connected AJS and Hawthorne-Scribner High School (HSHS) to the Eastern Umbrella gravity water system. The HSHS system will provide 60,000 liters of filtered water and 70,000 liters of chlorinated rainwater, with plans for potable water by December.
We’re replacing AJS’s roof and installing gutters to increase rainwater harvesting capacity. In 2025, we plan to complete water systems at AJS, MJS, and their respective clinics, and expand water access for the Matuwa community. We will also expand our outreach efforts with water filters and rainwater harvesting systems for more schools in need.
